Mayo Spirit is a full-day navigation and soft trekking experience that explores one of the most remote and scenic areas of Los Glaciares National Park. The tour combines exclusive boat navigation through the Mayo Channel with guided walks in pristine Patagonian forest, allowing travelers to discover waterfalls, rivers, hanging glaciers, and unique landscapes shaped by a humid microclimate. The experience also includes navigation in front of Perito Moreno Glacier and free time on the walkways, offering a complete journey through the heart of the park.
PeritoMorenoGlacier.com, a site by RipioTurismo, celebrates South America as the vibrant garden of our world, rich in colorful landscapes, cultural heritage, gastronomy, and warm hospitality. With +20 years of expertise, we craft custom trips across Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay. Our carefully selected hotels and local partners ensure the best service possible. We cater to FITs, groups, adventure seekers, and the 50+ age group with luxury tours.
The experience begins at Puerto Punta Bandera, where the boat Cruz del Sur departs and immediately enters the Canal de los Témpanos on Lake Argentino. Shortly after departure, the first scenic stop takes place in front of Punta Bandera, a historic site where Francisco Pascasio Moreno named Lake Argentino in 1877. This stop is made without disembarking, accompanied by an onboard explanation from the guide.
The navigation then continues into the Mayo Channel, an area known for its unique microclimate and lush vegetation, rarely accessed by visitors.
The first landing is at Bahía Toro, where a guided interpretive walk of approximately 700 meters takes place. The trail is mostly flat, with stones and exposed roots, and leads through the Andean Patagonian forest to a waterfall. From the lakeshore, it is also possible to observe hanging glaciers on Cerro Mayo and Cerro Negro.
After returning to the boat, a short navigation of about 15 minutes leads to the second landing at Cerro Negro. Here, a guided walk of approximately 1,000 meters begins, with gentle slopes and uneven terrain. The trail follows a river through the forest until reaching a viewpoint near the base of Cerro Negro, offering impressive views of the Hanging Negro Glacier and its waterfalls. Time is allowed to enjoy the landscape before returning to the boat.
The final stage of the journey leaves the Mayo Channel and navigates once again through the Canal de los Témpanos. During this part of the navigation, passengers have time to enjoy their packed lunch on board. Soon after, the boat reaches the northern face of Perito Moreno Glacier, where a slow navigation takes place in front of the ice wall.
The boat then docks at Puerto Perito Moreno, allowing passengers to access the glacier walkways. Free time is provided to explore the different viewpoints facing the glacier. At the time indicated by the guide, the group returns to the port to re-embark and navigate back to Puerto Punta Bandera.
