PeritoMorenoGlacier.com, a site by RipioTurismo, celebrates South America as the vibrant garden of our world, rich in colorful landscapes, cultural heritage, gastronomy, and warm hospitality. With +20 years of expertise, we craft custom trips across Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Paraguay. Our carefully selected hotels and local partners ensure the best service possible. We cater to FITs, groups, adventure seekers, and the 50+ age group with luxury tours.
Your adventure begins with a convenient pickup from the designated meeting point in El Calafate (optional transfer). Sit back in our comfy buses, where you’ll receive fascinating insights about the area, the Glacier, and the upcoming tour, all delivered via user-friendly audio guides available in Spanish, English, and Portuguese.
Upon reaching the Bajo las Sombras port (located at Ruta 11, km 70.9), you’ll step aboard a ship for a scenic 20-minute cruise across Lago Rico. This journey positions you right in front of the southern wall of the awe-inspiring Perito Moreno Glacier.
After disembarking and passing by the shelter, our expert mountain guides will form small groups, with a maximum of 20 participants in each. Then, embark on a brief 20-minute walk, complete with an engaging talk about glaciology as you stroll along the lakeside, approaching the Glacier.
Once on the ice, our highly experienced and certified mountain guides will outfit you with crampons and provide clear instructions on safe ice walking. You can feel confident—safety is paramount, and you’ll be in the hands of professionals throughout the tour.
During the approximately 1.5-hour Glacier walk, you’ll marvel at a diverse array of ice formations, including cracks, seracs, glacier mills, and picturesque small ponds. You’ll also have a chance to taste fresh glacier water and capture incredible photos—cameras and phones are welcome as long as you can carry them securely.
At the end of the trek, enjoy a traditional toast with whisky served over glacier ice, accompanied by fine chocolate—an unforgettable reward for your effort!
The trekking experience is of low/moderate difficulty. The ice surface may be uneven, but it’s firm and secure. Please note that the activity is not suitable for pregnant individuals or those with heart conditions.
Following the trek, enjoy a leisurely walk through the lush Magellanic forest back to the shelter. As this is a physically active, half-day experience with no food available on the glacier or at the refuge, we strongly recommend bringing your own hearty lunch and water.
As part of the tour, you’ll also have the opportunity to explore the well-marked pathways of Los Glaciares National Park, just 7 km from the port. Here, relish breathtaking panoramic views of the Glacier and take a stroll along some easy-to-navigate self-guided trails.
