Tierra del Fuego National Park, located at the southern tip of South America in Argentina, offers breathtaking landscapes and unique experiences for visitors. One of the highlights of visiting the park is taking a ride on the historic “Train of the End of the World” (Tren del Fin del Mundo).
The Train of the End of the World is a narrow-gauge steam railway that runs through the stunning Tierra del Fuego landscape, offering passengers a glimpse into the region’s history and natural beauty. Originally built as a prisoner train in the early 20th century, the railway now serves as a tourist attraction, providing an immersive journey through the park’s forests, rivers, and mountains.
As you ride the train, you’ll pass by picturesque scenery, including dense forests, snow-capped peaks, and crystal-clear rivers. Along the way, informative commentary sheds light on the history of the railway and the indigenous Yamana people who once inhabited the area.
The train journey typically includes stops at key points of interest within Tierra del Fuego National Park, allowing passengers to disembark and explore the surrounding wilderness on foot. Hiking trails lead to viewpoints, waterfalls, and other natural attractions, providing opportunities for up-close encounters with the park’s diverse flora and fauna.
It´s an amazing visit, that begins by traveling part of the famous national route N ° 3, then crossing the valley of the Rio Pipo and the slopes of Monte Susana until we reach the Train of the End of the World station, one of the sectors where the inmates of the old Ushuaia prison worked collecting firewood.
After visiting the facilities, we will leave in a convoy that will take us along part of the original route that the prison train ran through. We will cross bridges and peat bogs and we will stop at the La Macarena waterfall. After a brief description of the area, we will continue our trip entering the Tierra del Fuego National Park, towards the sector where the Lombardich sawmill was located.
The tour ends at the “Park Station”, where our driver and guide will be waiting for you to continue visiting the most attractive points of the Park and its imposing landscapes. For example, we will visit Roca Lake and Lapataia Bay (where national route 3, part of the Pan-American Route, ends).
In each site we will take short walks to appreciate the different species of the native forest and the fauna that is preserved within the southernmost National Park of Argentina. Return to the city.
