Gable Island, nestled in the Beagle Channel near Ushuaia, is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Visitors can paddle in canoes along its shores, encountering playful penguins frolicking in the surrounding waters, creating unforgettable moments amidst Patagonia’s stunning landscapes.
Gable Island encapsulates the essence of Tierra del Fuego, boasting untamed wilderness, diverse fauna, and terrain ideal for exploration. Unique to this excursion are two exceptional activities: canoeing along the Beagle Channel and a visit to Martillo Island’s vast penguin colony. Departing from our office on 136 Roca Street, we journey eastward on National Route No. 3 before embarking on the “J” route toward Lasifashaj River, where preparations commence for our canoeing adventure. Immersed in the serene waters, we pay homage to the region’s original inhabitants, navigating past tranquil landscapes abundant with Fuegian wildlife and seabirds, with the possibility of glimpsing sea lions. For those opting out of canoeing, alternative arrangements ensure seamless integration back into the group. Arriving at Harberton Estancia, a historic landmark dating back to 1886, we board a motorboat bound for Yécapasela Island (Martillo Island), home to a thriving penguin colony. After marveling at these charismatic creatures, we sail to the magnificent Isla Gable for a delectable hot lunch complemented by Patagonian wine. A guided interpretive walk unveils the island’s natural wonders, from colossal beaver dams to pristine Magellanic forests, revealing traces of the Yámana people’s heritage. Our journey concludes with a scenic coastal drive back to Puerto Harberton and a comfortable bus ride to Ushuaia, culminating in an unforgettable exploration of Tierra del Fuego’s unparalleled beauty.
