Minitrekking in Perito Moreno Glacier

Yes, this activity is one of the top attractions for all visitors to El Calafate and the Patagonia region. It is possible to walk on the ice of the Perito Moreno Glacier. There are two possible activities, both of which have a significant number of restrictions that should be carefully reviewed to ensure you can participate. There are age limits and health restrictions as well, directly tied to the activity’s insurance, so there is no flexibility in this regard.

Walking over the ice of Perito Moreno Glacier: My Experience

Walking on the Perito Moreno Glacier was an absolutely unforgettable experience. It all began with a short boat ride across the Brazo Rico, bringing me closer to those immense blue ice walls I had seen so many times in pictures. Once we disembarked, the guides gave us a brief safety talk and helped us put on the crampons. That was the moment I realized I was about to do something truly unique.

Taking my first steps on the ice was incredible. The ground felt firm but slightly crunchy under the crampons, and the sound of the ice beneath my feet echoed the vastness of the glacier. As we moved forward, the guides showed us crevices, small streams of crystal-clear water, and ice formations so perfect they looked like sculptures.

One of the most memorable moments was reaching a small lagoon with a shade of blue so intense it felt unreal. The water was pure and freezing cold, and we were even allowed to taste it directly with our hands.

The guides were attentive the entire time, teaching us how to move safely and sharing fascinating facts about the glacier. I couldn’t stop looking around, amazed by the contrast between the brilliant white of the ice, the deep blue hues, and the clear Patagonian sky.

At the end of the trek, they surprised us with a toast of whiskey with glacier ice. It was the perfect way to wrap up an experience that left me speechless. It wasn’t just a light physical challenge but also an opportunity to connect with one of the most impressive natural wonders in the world.

If you ever have the chance to do it, don’t hesitate! It’s something you’ll remember forever.
