Australis Expedition Cruise from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas

DAY 1

Check in in Ushuaia (Argentina)

Embarkation is in Ushuaia, Argentina. You can book a pretour if you arrive before your departure day.

Once in Ushuaia, between 10:00 PM and 5:00 PM, we will check-in  to embark at 6:00 PM.

After boarding, we will make a welcome toast and introduce the Captain and his crew.

The ship will sail to the far south immediately after. Through the mythical Beagle Channel and the Strait of Magellan, we will travel through Patagonia and the channels of Tierra del Fuego.

DAY 2

Cape Horn and Wulaia Bay

Today, we will sail through the Murray Channel and Nassau Bay, arriving at Cape Horn National Park, where we will disembark, if weather conditions permit, to experience the magic of walking through one of the southernmost points of the world, surrounded by charm and legends.

In the afternoon, we will disembark at Wulaia Bay, a historic site of one of the largest settlements of the native Yagans canoeists. We will reach a viewpoint, walking through the Magellanic forest in. which lengas, coigĂ¼es, canelos, and ferns grow, among other species.

DAY 3

Pia Glacier and Porter Glacier

In the morning, we will sail along the northwest arm of the Beagle Channel to enter and disembark in the Pia Fjord. We will make a trip to the viewpoint from where you will see the homonymous glacier, whose main peak extends from the top of the mountain range to the sea. During the afternoon, in our Zodiac boats, we will navigate between high rocky walls until reaching the Porter Glacier.

DAY 4

Agostini Sound, Aguila Glacier, Condor Glacier

In the morning, we will navigate the Cockburn Channel to enter the Agostini Sound, where you can appreciate the glaciers that descend from the center of the Darwin Mountain Range, some of them reaching the sea. During the morning, we will disembark in Zodiac boats for a walk around a lagoon formed by the melting of the Aguila Glacier. In the afternoon, we will navigate in Zodiac boats to approach the Condor Glacier. We will learn about the formation of glaciers and their influence on the abrupt geography of the Fuegian channels.

DAY 5

Magdalena Island and Punta Arenas

We will disembark at Magdalena Island first thing in the morning if weather conditions are suitable. On the island, we will be able to see a huge colony of Magellanic penguins. This excursion is replaced by a landing on Marta Island in September and April, where South American sea lions can be sighted from Zodiac boats.

Then, we will arrive in Punta Arenas, disembarking at approximately 12:30 hrs.

Can I see the Cape Horn during my cruise?

Yes, but please note, disembarkation at Cape Horn National Park depends on the weather conditions. For reference, our historical percentage of possible landings is 75%.

Are there any additional costs?

Port fees are an additional cost to the fare and are paid together with the total value of the ticket.

Thev port fees for the 2023-2024 season, they are as follows:

• Punta Arenas to Ushuaia route: US $105.
• Ushuaia to Punta Arenas route: US $105.
• Punta Arenas to Ushuaia to Punta Arenas route: US $120.
• Ushuaia to Punta Arenas to Ushuaia route: US $120.

For the 2024-2025 season, they are as follows:

-Punta Arenas – Ushuaia segment: US $120 per passenger.
-Ushuaia – Punta Arenas segment: US $120 per passenger.
-Punta Arenas – Ushuaia – Punta Arenas segment: US $135 per passenger.
-Ushuaia – Punta Arenas – Ushuaia segment: US $135 per passenger.

These values may be modified without prior notice and may vary depending on the amount determined by the corresponding authorities of each country.

RECIPROCITY FEE

To enter Chile and Argentina there is a reciprocity tax that is charged to citizens of certain nationalities. This amount varies according to nationality and in recent years many countries have eliminated it, so it is advisable to confirm in the country of origin if there is a reciprocity fee in force to consider.

Is smoking allowed?

Smoking is only allowed on the outside decks of the ship, since, according to Chilean law No. 20,105, smoking is prohibited in any enclosed space inside the cruise ship.

Can I see penguins during my cruise?

Well, penguins are migratory birds and are usually found in the region between the months of October to March. So, depending the date of your cruise, you can see penguins or not.

What about the tip?

Each passenger is free to decide how much to tip. Those who wish to reimburse the service onboard must deliver the gratuity at the ship’s reception desk on the last day of the voyage. We suggest US $25 per person, per day, which will be distributed equally among all the crew that has made the trip an unforgettable experience.

What´s the weather expected during my cruise?

In the cruise months, the temperature fluctuates between 5 and 15 degrees Celsius (equivalent to 41 and 59 degrees Fahrenheit). It is important to note that weather conditions are very unpredictable and could change constantly during the day

Is there any insurance included?

The Company has civil liability insurance to respond to losses or damages that passengers and/or their property may experience onboard the ship. This liability is governed by the conditions of the passenger contract and the relevant rules of Book Three of the Chilean Commercial Code. If the passenger wishes to have additional coverage for health risks, death, travel assistance, or other events or contingencies that he/she and/or his/her luggage may experience during the trip, he/she must purchase travel assistance insurance at the insurance company of his/her choice.

What type of volgate is used on the boat?

The cabins are equipped with plugs for 220 volts. The bathrooms have 220 and 110 volt outlets.

How are the payments made on board the cruise?

Voluntary gratuities (suggested US $25 per passenger, per night) and personal expenses in the onboard store, such as souvenirs, sportswear or other items, may be paid with Mastercard, Visa, American Express, Diners, US dollars, Euros or Chilean pesos.

Do the cruise offers safe deposit boxes?

Yes, each cabin has a safe deposit box to store items.

Can I use my drone?

According to the provisions of the National Forestry Corporation of Chile (CONAF), the use of drones or any type of RPAS technology is prohibited in the Protected Wildlife Areas of the Magallanes Region. The Company prohibits the use on board of drones or any type of RPAS technology.
