A 3-day, 2-night trekking experience, with overnight stays at an outpost of the estate serving as a refuge where you can experience authentic rural Patagonian life, concluding the journey with the Glaciar Sur Adventure excursion.
The Baguales are domestic animals that have escaped from humans to return to nature. This hill is named after them because some wild horses and cows still roam that remote area.
ITINERARY
Trekking Expedition to Los Baguales from Nibepo Aike
DAY 1
Arrive to Nibepo Aike
After pick up from your hotel in El Calafate, or even in El calafate airport, we will go directly to the incredible Estancia Nibepo Aike.
The route from El Calafate to Estancia Nibepo Aike takes travelers through some of the most stunning landscapes of Argentine Patagonia. Typically, the journey begins in El Calafate, a town known for its proximity to the spectacular Perito Moreno Glacier.
From El Calafate, travelers usually head southwest on Provincial Route 11, also known as the “Camino al Glaciar” (Glacier Road). This route offers breathtaking views of Lake Argentino and the surrounding mountains as it winds its way through the rugged Patagonian terrain.
After approximately 50 kilometers (31 miles), travelers reach the turnoff for Provincial Route 15, which leads to Estancia Nibepo Aike. This road continues through the picturesque countryside, passing by vast expanses of grasslands dotted with grazing sheep and cattle.
As travelers approach Estancia Nibepo Aike, they may catch glimpses of the ranch’s traditional buildings against the backdrop of the snow-capped Andes mountains. The final stretch of the journey often involves driving along unpaved roads, adding to the sense of adventure and remoteness of the location.

DAY 2
We start the expedition
After breakfast at Nibepo Aike, we will be ready to start our 2-night trekking expedition to Los Baguales. We hike along the southern shore of Lake Argentino to Laguna 3 de Abril Outpost, where we spend the night.
DAY 3
We continue our expedition
After breakfast, we continue our trip, to The Baguales Range, with views of the hidden glaciers and Lake Frías, the erratic rock to Laguna Corazón. An amazing landscape!
DAY 4
Last trekking day
After breakfast, we embark on the Glaciar Sur Adventure excursion to reach the hidden glaciers, a 14km trek along the bed of what used to be the Frías River. We return to Nibepo Aike by navigating the southern arm of the lake. Tranfser to your hotel in El Calafate or airport. We suggest to add an extra night at Nibepo Aike!

It´s a moderated horseback riding. You will be horseback riding around 6 hours per day. Available for children over 12 years old
