Calafate Balcony Tour in a 4×4 Vehicle

We start from El Calafate. Inside the Huyliche ranch, we access the Balcones de El Calafate in 4×4 vehicles. From this panoramic point, you can see Lake Argentino, the city of El Calafate, the Fitz Roy and Torre hills, and the source of the Perito Moreno Glacier.

There is also a sedimentary rock site where we find wood chips, sharks’ teeth, and fossilized marine oysters.
After making a stop in the “position” for a snack, we began the return to the city of El Calafate. There is also the option of departure during the morning with lunch included.

You depart from your hotel in El Calafate to complete a journey of about 35 kilometers above the line of hills located behind the village. The trail immerses us into steppe landscapes where we reach heights up to 1050 meters above sea level, and we marvel at the variety of vegetation at this height.
Our first stop is at a natural viewpoint, where passengers enjoy a panoramic view of El Calafate and the main body of Lake Argentino. The tour will offer views of the Andes, the glacier accumulation zone, the Boca del Diablo (the narrowest part of the lake, towards the Upsala arm), and more. If cleared, you will observe the Fitz Roy and Torre in Chalten and contemplate the flight of the condors.
Ascending further, we come to the Stone Labyrinth, an 85 million-year-old Cretaceous formation and riverbed where we can still find ancient fossils. From there, we will descend the northern face of the hill and arrive at Hats Rock, a curious iron concretion that can only be found in four locations worldwide.
Without losing sight of the massive Lake Argentino, we travel back to El Calafate.
