ITINERARY

Live a truly unique adventure and discover the Perito Moreno Glacier, a UNESCO Natural Heritage Site, from a completely different perspective — one that you will remember forever.

Your day begins at 8:00 AM with a hotel pick-up in El Calafate. After a scenic 74 km drive, you’ll arrive at Los Glaciares National Park around 9:30 AM. (Optional: Transfers from and to El Calafate are available at an additional cost.)

At 10:00 AM, you will meet our team at the “Perito Moreno Kayak Experience” meeting point, located near the glacier’s lower parking area. Here, our expert kayak guides will welcome you, provide a full briefing on safety and paddling techniques, and equip you with professional gear — including a Gore-Tex dry suit, thermal suit, boots, gloves, and life jacket. No prior kayaking experience is required.

Once ready, the adventure truly begins: you’ll launch from Playa de los Témpanos and paddle toward the front of the majestic glacier, approaching as close as 600 meters. Along the way, you’ll pause to take stunning photos and learn fascinating facts about this extraordinary natural wonder.

After approximately 1.5 hours on the water, you’ll return to the starting point to enjoy warm beverages and snacks.
The experience continues with 2 hours of free time to explore the glacier’s extensive system of walkways, offering panoramic viewpoints of the glacier from different angles. (Optional: included with the full-day tour.)

Finally, you’ll head back to El Calafate in the afternoon, concluding an unforgettable day at one of the world’s most breathtaking destinations. (Optional.)

FAQs

Is this tour available on Dec 24, 25, 31, or Jan 1?

This tour operates on December 24 and 31, but does not operate on December 25 or January 1.

What is the minimum age for participation? Can I go with children?

The minimum age is 14 years. Participants aged 14 to 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Is this tour available for people with reduced mobility?

No, unfortunately, this tour is not accessible for individuals with reduced mobility.

Do you offer packed lunch?

A box lunch is included with the full-day tour. If you choose the half-day tour (kayaking only), we recommend bringing your own lunch. Alternatively, you can enjoy a meal at the restaurant located within Los Glaciares National Park.

How does the booking process work?

After booking and finalizing payment, you will receive a confirmation of your purchase. Then, in less than 24 hours, you will receive the voucher that you can use to take the excursions.

If the reservation is for the next day, we will be attentive and send you the voucher before your excursion begins.

Is prior kayaking experience required? Can novices participate?

No prior kayaking experience is required. The activity is suitable for novices, and double kayaks are used to ensure maximum stability and comfort. You’ll be guided throughout the experience, making it perfect for first-timers.

What should I bring? Does the tour provide suitable equipment for kayaking?

We recommend bringing comfortable and warm clothing, such as a jacket, sports footwear or trekking boots, sunglasses, sunscreen, gloves, and a hat.

The tour includes all necessary professional kayaking gear: a dry suit (Gore-Tex), a thermal suit, boots, gloves, and life jackets — all designed to keep you safe, warm, and dry during the activity.

Can the activity be canceled due to weather?

Yes, guides may cancel the activity if weather conditions are deemed unsafe. In this case, we will provide you the option to reeschedule or receive a full refund of your payment.

How much time will I be kayaking?

1.5 hours (duration may vary depending on weather conditions).

In what area does the kayaking in Perito Moreno Glacier take place?

The kayaking experience takes place on the north face of the Perito Moreno Glacier, one of the most impressive and active sections of the ice wall.

Will I be able to see the glaciers closer this way?

Absolutely! You’ll kayak among icebergs right in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier, offering a unique and up-close perspective.

I’ll be bringing a backpack or bag — is there somewhere I can leave it during the kayaking activity?

Absolutely! Lockers are available on-site for you to securely store your belongings.

Is this experience better for first-time visitors or for travelers who have already seen the glacier?

It works well for both. First-time visitors gain a strong sense of scale and context, while returning travelers often appreciate seeing the ice from a different angle, distance, or time of day than on a standard visit.

How does the experience change when the glacier is very active?

Glacier activity is unpredictable. On active days you may hear cracking ice or witness calving events, but these natural events can never be guaranteed. The experience remains worthwhile because the landscape, colors, and scale are impressive even without a major calving.

Will cloudy weather ruin the views?

Not necessarily. Patagonia’s light changes quickly, and overcast conditions can actually enhance the blue tones and texture of the ice. Visibility may vary during the day, so travelers should avoid judging the entire experience by the forecast alone.

Is this a good option for photography enthusiasts?

Yes. The changing light, ice formations, mountains, water, and wide Patagonian landscapes provide excellent photographic opportunities. A zoom lens can be useful, but a smartphone is also sufficient for strong wide-angle images.

Can this tour be combined with another glacier activity on the same trip?

Usually yes, depending on your itinerary. Many travelers combine a scenic glacier visit with a navigation, trekking activity, estancia experience, or a second day focused on another sector of Los Glaciares National Park.

How close will I be to the glacier?

The exact distance depends on the activity and safety regulations. Scenic tours, boats, and active experiences all use designated safe zones, allowing close views without compromising visitor safety or the protected environment.

Is the experience very different in spring, summer and autumn?

Yes. Snow cover, daylight hours, vegetation, temperature, wind, and the color of the surrounding landscape change through the season. The glacier is spectacular throughout the operating period, but each month offers a slightly different atmosphere.

Is this a good choice if I only have a short stay in El Calafate?

This is a day trip from Buenos Aires with return flights to El Calafate. It is designed for travelers without an overnight stay there; confirm flight and excursion timings.

Does wind affect the experience significantly?

Wind is part of normal Patagonian conditions. It can influence perceived temperature and, for boat-based activities, operational decisions. Dressing in layers and keeping flexibility in your schedule makes the experience more comfortable.

What is the main reason to choose this option instead of simply visiting the walkways independently?

The principal difference is the coordinated return flights from Buenos Aires and ground arrangements in El Calafate. Confirm park admission and Buenos Aires transfers.

Do I need previous kayaking, rafting or paddling experience?

For most recreational departures, previous experience is not required unless the product specifically states otherwise. Guides provide a briefing and explain basic technique before entering the water.

How much does wind influence this activity?

Wind is one of the main variables in Patagonia. It can affect route, pace, comfort and, occasionally, whether the activity can operate safely. Guides make decisions based on real conditions on the day.

What if I fall into the water?

Safety procedures and equipment are designed for that possibility. Follow the guide’s briefing carefully and stay calm; the team will explain the appropriate recovery procedure before the activity begins.

Will my clothes or belongings get wet?

There is always some chance of spray or water exposure. Keep valuables in protected storage or waterproof packaging and follow the operator’s clothing instructions.

Is the activity physically exhausting?

It requires active participation, but the effort level varies with current, wind, distance and pace. Most travelers find it manageable when they meet the stated fitness requirements.

Can I take a camera or phone?

Usually yes, but only with suitable waterproof protection and secure attachment. For valuable equipment, ask the operator which storage options are available before departure.

Is this activity enjoyable on cloudy days?

Yes. Patagonia’s lakes and rivers remain scenic in changing weather, and cloud cover can create dramatic mountain light. Safety conditions matter more than sunshine.

How are participants grouped during the activity?

Guides normally organize participants according to safety, equipment and the type of craft. The exact configuration may vary depending on group size and operating conditions.

Can non-swimmers participate?

This depends on the specific activity and operator requirements. Even when flotation equipment is provided, travelers who cannot swim should declare this before booking so suitability can be confirmed.

Why choose a paddling activity instead of a conventional sightseeing tour?

Paddling provides a quieter, more immersive perspective at water level and adds an active component to the scenery. It is ideal for travelers who want more participation than a standard panoramic excursion.
