This full-day adventure combines kayaking and trekking in the heart of Patagonia. Paddle along the turquoise waters of La Leona River, surrounded by the ocher steppe and dramatic landscapes once admired by explorers like Darwin and Moreno. Along the way, you’ll hike through rocky hills to viewpoints with petrified trunks and fossils, guided by bilingual experts who will share insights into the region’s geology, flora, fauna, and history.

ITINERARY

Your day begins with hotel pick-up in El Calafate at 7:30 AM, arriving at the river around 9:30 AM. After a safety briefing and gearing up with all technical equipment, you’ll learn paddling techniques and rescue maneuvers before heading into the water.

The first kayak stretch lasts about 1 hour and 15 minutes (8 km). At La Fortaleza Mount, you’ll stop for a picnic lunch and take a hike through Los Hornos Mount, where petrified trunks and ancient fossils can be seen.

After the hike and rest, you’ll continue kayaking for another hour (6 km), observing geological formations and the steppe’s unique vegetation. The journey ends at El Turbio stream around 3:00 PM, returning to El Calafate by 4:30 PM. Travelers with flights after 6 PM can be dropped off at the airport on the way back.
