The shared name comes from Francisco Pascasio Moreno, the Argentine explorer, naturalist and conservation pioneer commonly known as Perito Moreno. In Spanish, perito is a title meaning an expert or specialist; it is not his first name.
Both the glacier and the national park commemorate Moreno’s work and legacy in Patagonia. That historical connection explains the repeated name, but it does not indicate that the glacier is located within the park bearing his name.
